Thank you and good luck

What an incredible year it has been. Despite all the craziness, I am so thankful and inspired by the time I have had with my students and the connections I have been lucky enough to make with the families. It may seem strange to say to a group of students that I largely did not get to meet in person, but I will miss you all so much. You have made me grow as a person, challenged me to be better, and I am so thankful for your presence in my life.

I have archived our Google Classroom. Students can still access all of their assignments through their Google Drive, but they will no longer be able to upload to the classroom. I have posted a final video to the classroom featuring the teachers giving their summer fun ideas.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to reach out, connect, and be a part of this crazy experience. I wish you all the best for the summer and beyond. May things be easier from here on out.

Stay safe, be kind, and keep reading!

Last week of school!

Dear room 11,

It's hard to believe we are already at the end of the this wild and crazy school year. Thank you so much for being a part of this experience and special thanks to everyone who came out to the school parade despite the crazy hail that came down and pulverized all the decorations. It really lifted my heart to see your faces.

The assignments for this week have been posted. As this is the last week, we wanted to give you some activities that are low pressure and allow you to express your creativity. Feel free to download the Time Capsule Activity and complete it for yourself.

I will be returning all assignments by Monday, June 29 and then the classroom will be archived on Tuesday, June 30. You will still be able to access your work through your Google Drive but you won't be able to submit or modify any work after that date. As this is the last week, there are no meetings with the follow exceptions:

Wednesday, June 24, 2020 - Reading the last 2 chapters of Harry Potter from 10 am to 11 am.
Friday, June 26, 2020 - Last class meeting to say goodbye to everyone from 10 am to 11 am.

I hope you all have a safe and adventurous summer ahead of you! Please know that even if we never met in the person, I am so grateful to have had you as part of my teaching experience this year and I wish you all the best next year and beyond.

Be safe, stay curious, and keep reading!

Schedule for June 1 to June 5

Whew! This week has been quite the ride what with all the technical issues on Google Meet. I'm happy we were still able to run our regular Harry Potter reading on Wednesday, but I couldn't see any of the students due to the interface being buggy. Hopefully things will be fixed next week!

Here's some important dates for parents and students to note for next week:

Monday, June 1 - new assignments released. Flat teacher project posts the first challenge!
Tuesday, June 2 - office hours for questions about assignments from 10 am - 11 am
Wednesday, June 3 - reading Harry Potter from 10 am to 11 am. We are a little over half way!
Thursday, June 4 - Class check in from 10 am to 11 am
Friday, June 5 - PD day for teachers. No office hours.

Please note that next week's theme is Crazy Hair! I will be taking pictures for the yearbook on Thursday during the class meet so get creative and show me your crazy hair!

Hope everyone is staying safe and getting active with the beautiful weather we've been having. I also finally finished the class art video! I am unable to upload it to Blogger due to the size, but it is posted in the Google Classroom. Hope you enjoy seeing everyone's creations!

Wrap up for First Week in May

Can you believe it's MAY?! Where has the time gone?

This week was the first week of the new schedule. I had a few students tune in on Tuesday, but no one really had questions about assignments. Wednesday was the first day we were reading Harry Potter and I was so excited to see 9 students show up to listen. I had to cancel Math Games for Thursday because I wasn't feeling well, but the students have told me they are still interested in playing, so I plan to be online for next week. Today was COSTUME DAY on our Google Meet and I was so happy to see everyone who showed up take part, and the kids said they liked my dinosaur costume. I have taken a photo that I hope will be included in the yearbook. Students also shared their musical talent on our meet today and it was so heartwarming to see the kids being supportive of each other.

Some things to note for next week:

1. New schedule will continue next week. Tuesday: assignment help. Wednesday: Reading Harry Potter. Thursday: Math games. Friday: Class checkin.
2. I am compiling together the students' art submissions into a video to share with the class over the weekend, so keep an eye out for that on Google Classroom.
3. Monday there will be a reading comprehension assignment and a geometry and time wrap up assignment.
4. Next week is JERSEY week, so feel free to wear your favorite jerseys to our class meetings.

As always, email me any time with questions or comments. Until next time, stay safe and keep reading!

1. Geometry Quiz is due today. I have marked the ones that have been handed in so far.
2. I will be reading Harry Potter every Wednesday from 10 am to 11 am, so make sure you tune in to our Google Meet! This is optional if you want to listen in.
3. This Friday is both COSTUME DAY and music sharing! I will post a schedule for who will be playing their instruments on Thursday, so please tune in and give a listen. Make sure your mics are off while people are sharing their music. I will also be taking pictures for the year book.
4. There will be a multiple choice quiz on TIME posted on Thursday. It is due May 11.
5. Don't forget to put in your suggestions for our class name. We will vote on all the suggestions after May 8.
6. Remember to submit your coloring art if you want it included in the next video. I have 8 pieces submitted so far. Deadline for submissions is May 6.

Hope you have a great week! I will be in our Google Classroom from 10 am to 11 am tomorrow morning to answer any questions you have about this week's assignments. Click the picture below to see our current weekly schedule.
